May 2010: Renewable energy installation in Hareibat A Nabi
The system is designed to support each of the 4 families that live throughout the year in Hareibat a Nabi with the provision of 1.5-2KWH daily. Families that will come to stay for shorter periods during the year in the community will consume much less power and only basic needs are supported, ( light, charger of phone, radio, etc)
December 2009 - May 2010: A major installation covering 5 communities in the region south Hebron hills.
We have installed wind and solar power to provide energy to about 500 people. Total installed capacity is more than 60 kWh a day. This allows the people to use light, refrigerators, butter churns, TV, computers and phone chargers.
We have been working in Mrier al Abid, Esfai foque, Esfai Tacht, Tuba and Umm al Kheir.
The project was funded by the
German Foreign Office
through
Medico International.
October - November 2009: Field survey trips and few family system installations
We have made several field surveys to off grid communities in the area and prepared the required project applications for those communities. We have also done several installations of small systems
Energy systems face a lifetime of support and continuous improvement.
We treat each change made for system support or improvement merely as another project.
These projects follow the exact same problem-solving approach we apply in the big projects.
We consider all the social, technical and financial aspects.
However, these projects require less effort and budget, so they are excellent opportunities to nurture friendships.
Summer of 2009: The completion of the susya project
Six more family systems were installed in Susya and the community utility center was
upgraded to produce more power and now includes two refrigerators.
Comet and the community working together, preparing a solar panel for installation.
Spring of 2009:
The construction of a community utility centre in Susya
A hybrid wind and solar system was constructed to provide the needed electricity to power
a refrigerator and a butter churn thus simultaneously boosting revenue from butter sales
and reducing manual work load.
Summer of 2008:
Wind turbine construction workshop for Palestinians from all over the west bank
We gave a "hands on" workshop on how to build a wind turbine for a group of 10
Palestinians from across the west bank, and had a working machine by the end of the week!
Participants in the wind turbine
construction workshop enjoying the fruit of their
labour.
Winter of 2007-2008:
Initial proof-of-concept of Hybrid wind and solar system in Susya
We conducted a needs survey in the community of Susya and decided to concentrate on energy issues.
A later survey of wind and solar resources proved the viability of using renewable energy to
provide the community with energy services. Initially two systems were built to test the concept.
A complete "off the shelf" wind
and solar off grid system installed in Susya.
